THIS is the concluding part
of the series started last week aimed at improving your public speaking
capabilities. The response has been interesting. It is heart-warming to note
that many people are interested in dealing with glossophobia (please refer to
the last post) and developing their potentials to “waoh” their audience and
create better impact and increase personal productivity.
Important Tips
When you are not convinced
or ill-formed about a subject you are talking about, don’t expect people to
believe you. So
research and believe in the topic you are talking about. Passion speaks.
Learn how to control your voice,
including pitch, tone and speed. Public speaking is performance, however you
look at it.
You know people believe
what they see more than what they hear. You should therefore watch your body
language. Also, make every effort to use appropriate gestures, eye
contact with the audience and smile. Avoid leaning on the podium when speaking.
Personally I run away from the podium as much as I can and stay within the
audience. This generates bond and friendship with my audience, and enhances my
speaking.

It is also necessary to practice public
speaking so as to enhance the skills you want to acquire. As hard as
it may seem, don’t shy away from opportunities to give a vote of thanks, an
eulogy, or a toast. Even in public speaking, practice still makes perfect.
When I work with my
clients, I record their rehearsals and actual public speaking engagements for a
latter review. This helps you to spot areas where you can improve. I encourage
you to do this also. Get a friend to record you speak and review it latter.
Now you know another use of the video function in your mobile phone. Maximise
it.

(1) "TO CONTROL OUR VOICE" I have noticed that some people are not good talking with Microphone rather their audience will ask them to talk without Microphone so that they can hear Him Or Her clear... Thank you soo much Sir you really illustrated them to my understanding i will put them in practice. Thanks and more Grace Ahead....

DeleteThe microphone basically is meant to magnify one's voice. Some current sound software however can improve the quality of one's voice. In any case a great speaker should have control over his voice, including tone, modulation and pitch. Constant practice is essential in this regard. Many thanks for your interest and support. I still look forward to connecting more with you on my blog. On this blog, there are great resources for your personal and business development.
