Why Risk Taking Is Good For Us All

ISN'T it interesting that the first time anything new and creative is proposed, it gets labelled? And the label put on these novel things is likely to be “risky”, or “unreasonable” or unachievable” or “idle dream”. Those who seemingly think they care about you will advise you get a life or a job and forget your dream or proposal.

Stories abound of men and women who dared and subsequently changed their world and the world. I share some thought-provoking points I read in New Wine Chronicle titled “Daring to Take Risks”

It turns out, over time, that some of the people who dared to propose such outlandish possibilities are now regarded as geniuses, revolutionaries, or heroes. And it was only because they dared to question others and to question themselves. They challenged the limitations others were willing to take for granted.

James Watt was the inventor of the steam engine, which was critical in the industrial revolution. The Wright Brothers successfully designed, built and flew the first powered aircraft, showing that man could fly. Ann Moore, together with her mother, invented the original soft baby carrier, the Snugli. Due to their invention, mothers and fathers all over the world are able to ride bikes, cook and run errands while carrying their babies close to them. The list is endless. They dared!

Back in September 2014, when I started my audio programme on WhatsApp, The Next Level with Chukwuemeka, many of my friends told me that they thought I would do just one or two editions, and close shop. But no! This broadcast is the 34th Episode sent directly to many hundred listeners. This blog has over two thousand seven hundred page views in just about three months of launch.

There is something in your profession or business, your family or religious group that could be done better. A situation could be more productive, some lofty ideal to which all in the group give lip service could actually be implemented. Could it be you taking the lead? Yes it could!

However, I must warn you upfront. Any new ground you may wish to break may take twice as long as you thought, cost far more than you anticipated and strain every important relationship in your life. Your determination may be doubted by very close friends, The Next Level with Chukwuemeka was doubted also.

Only you can decide if it will be worth it to undertake something so ambitious. There will be false starts, there will be embarrassing mistakes along the way, but the potential outcome could be as important to your personal situation as the achievements of the world’s greatest inventors and trailblazers.

Always remember that the problem with our world is not that there are no more frontiers to challenge and conquer, it’s that there are too few explorers. There are too few people willing to ask questions and challenge the traditional wisdom or convention. Don’t be scared to take the risk that could make you look stupid.

Make a firm resolution to let yesterday be and seize the opportunities of now! No time in human history offers such opportunities as now! Time is short, life is transient. Live it, take that risk now!!!!!

Make a date with The Next Level with Chukwuemeka International Self-Discovery and Financial Empowerment Conference in November 2015 in Abuja and see your life take a new turn. This is guaranteed!
