DO you take time to appreciate nature and creation? You will be
amazed how much Mother Nature can teach us. One only needs to create time and
study it. Let me share some Important Life and Business
Lessons from Mother Hen.
Planning is crucial for any success in life. Before
Mother Hen sits on her eggs, she first ensures that she has laid enough eggs.
She may never have another opportunity in her breeding cycle if she sits on her
eggs before completely laying them all. Successful people are like that, they
are good planners. They are clear about what they want and with proper
planning, begin the execution of their plans.
Successful people, like the Mother Hen are disciplined and
self-controlled. When the Mother Hen starts sitting on her
eggs, she minimizes movement to the barest minimum. Of course this requires a
lot of self-discipline. Self-discipline means self-control, which is a sign of
inner strength and control of yourself, your actions, and your reactions.
Self-control is a hallmark of emotional intelligence.
In
the course of laying eggs and sitting on them, Mother Hen cannot move around
for long in search of food or pleasures. She invariably decreases feeding or
pleasures so as to devote more time to her eggs; her dreams and aspirations.
Decreased feeding naturally translates to weight loss. In other words, Mother Hen sacrifices and denies herself of instant
gratification. This important attribute is common among all successful
people. It is reported that, ‘people that delay
gratification are more successful with their career, relationships,
health, finances and really, all areas of life’.

Is it
not interesting that amongst the world’s greatest philanthropists are also the
world’s richest? They are always willing to lend a helping hand. Hold on. They don’t give because they are rich, no, they are rich
because they give. They learnt that from Mother Hen who is known to be
generous and kind-hearted enough to sit on eggs from another hen. How helpful
are you?
Do
you want to be successful, then you need large doses of faith, hope and
doggedness. Michael Jordan, a man regarded as the world’s greatest basketball
player of all generations, is known to have been cut from his high school
basketball team. It is reported that Jordan has stated that, "I have failed over and over and over again in my life.
And that is why I succeed." Mother Hen patiently sits on her eggs
for 21 days waiting and even if they don't hatch she will still lay eggs again,
and again and again. What doggedness!
A lot
of us struggle with this point which Mother Hen so brilliantly displays. Mother
Hen can never abandon her chicks before they mature, that is mentorship. Who is
your mentor and who are you mentoring? Mentorship is not only about receiving,
it is also about giving. While the road to and of success can be lonely, you
need accountability partners. Do you
need a mentor or would you like to mentor others? Is good success on your mind?
