Important Skills to Guarantee A Successful 2016. PART 2

ON the last post, I started a very interesting series on important skills you will need for a successful 2016. Remember that these skills are not exhaustive, not in order of importance and require a lot of practice.  

Have you realized that many a time when one is faced with a tough issue, deep constructive thinking; creative thinking and rest have a way of helping achieve breakthrough. Creative thinking is an uncommon skill which many people lack. Creative thinking is demanding, hard and painful no doubt but the gains are enormous. The present education system neither develops nor enhances creative thinking, so being more educated does not necessarily mean that you are a better thinker than a less educated person.

One of the factors to reflect on in creative thinking is to consider all factors in the matter at hand. Also, consider APC. Not again, not the Nigerian political party. By APC in creative thinking, I mean ‘Alternatives, Possibilities, Choices’. In this method, you generate as much alternatives, possibilities and choices for the solution of the problem. Meditation is also a form of creative thinking. Creative thinking is a skill you can acquire. In 2016, you can creatively think your way to success, so develop creative thinking skills.

Do unto others as you want them to do to you. This is an age long saying. Let it also be a guiding saying for 2016. As you may be aware a mentor exists to help you succeed. Just as a mentor exists for your success, so you should also be for someone else’s success. It isn’t enough to get a mentor in 2016, it is very vital to be available to mentor someone.

And don’t fall for that lie that you may be young or financially low to be a mentor. What is mentorship? According to Wikipedia, ‘Mentorship is a relationship in which a more experienced or more knowledgeable person helps to guide a less experienced or less knowledgeable person. The mentor may be older or younger, but have a certain area of expertise’. I therefore encourage you to mentor someone in your certain area of know-how.

You must develop your risk-taking skills this year. I am sorry to burst your bubble, especially for those of us who are risk-averse. I am not also suggesting that we seek risk to the point of recklessness. When you take a risk, ask yourself what will be the worst case scenario? Sometimes risk-taking is not as bad as we fear.

According to Tara-Nicolle, a human development expert, ‘every time you take a risk in pursuit of your dreams, one of two things will happen: either you will succeed at your mission, or you will succeed at getting an education’. Remember my point about the so called failing. There is nothing like that, rather it is an unexpected result. What risk will you take in pursuit of your dreams in 2016? Take it, heaven will not fall, it has never!  

Whether you succeed or not, is really in your hands. Remember that when you set the sails, God sends the wind.
