GROWING up in the 1980s, there was this popular song by Shalamar, ‘Make That Move Right Now Baby’. Remember it? Its old school now. That was any DJ’s favourite. It was guaranteed to bring legs to the dance floor. I remember my uncles and aunties always rocking this song. Growing up was fun. Well this is not the focus of this edition.

Make that move right now was actually inspired by my meeting a business associate recently. I belong to a couple of groups on WhatsApp. 




And in one of the groups, the Admin, to encourage friendship and interaction, insisted members call at least 3 members. I made the move, infact I surpassed the objective. I not only called 3 members, I also visited one of them who was at a business presentation. What I have always known became more vivid; to make and maintain friendships, to make valuable business connections, you must make that move, you must leave your comfort zone. By that visit, that move, I am about to launch a major profitable business venture. With today’s global economic realities, we must make that move to better position our endeavours for greater productivity. How do you make move you may ask?

Understand that profits have moved to the market place. Sitting in your comfort zone is no longer enough. You must determine to go meet opportunities. Stop waiting for opportunities to come to you. There are too many challenges confronting opportunities and delaying his visit to you, so go to him.

When you meet people, have an open mind. It’s so amazing how many a time we prejudge a situation before even confronting it. Avoid prejudice. Always give the benefit of a doubt. I understand the challenge with this seeing all the deceit prevailing in the environment, but yet I encourage you to follow the time tested advice, ’never judge a book by its cover’.

Be prepared. This Boys Scout motto, should be your life and business maxim. See every day as your world cup final. Have a mental and physical preparation as you seek opportunities. Dress for the occasion, have a business card ready, volunteer your services, properly introduce yourself and services, pursue excellence.

Make that move right now baby, sorry, I meant friend.
