How To Deal With Rejection: Succeed

THE human nature is so wired to celebrate more than mourn, and what can be more celebrated than success? People don’t reject success, they celebrate and respect it. Nothing aptly captures this point like the fairytale rise of Leicester City Football Club, a rise that has taken the club to the top, winning the English Premiership.

Bookmakers put a bet at five thousand to one possibility of the club winning. At the start of the English Premiership, Leicester City for lack of an appropriate word was rejected, not giving the chance of being among the top 5 clubs let alone win the league. To deal with that rejection, they succeeded, they won the English Premiership; this is a great lesson. Everyone now is Leicester, do you blame them? Success has many friends after all.

The heartwarming aspect of success is that it is within the reach of everyone. And importantly, what one considers success may not be your own definition of success, so while one pursues financial success like tomorrow does not exist, another pursues career or family success. Define your own success and go for it.

Back to the Leicester City story, is it not instructive that back in 2004, it was reported that Ranieri, the current Leicester City manager was sacked by Chelsea’s Abramovich because Ranieri in Abramovich’s view can never win the premier league. Be careful what you call impossible. Some of the current players of Leicester City were rejected by top flight clubs in Europe because they were considered ‘unfit, not-good-enough, or had no future in football’. People’s view of you is their decision and outlook and should never be yours nor indeed your business.

Never forget that the difference between successful people and unsuccessful people is that successful people do all the things unsuccessful people don't want to do. Follow this link for more on this

In your quest for success:

Mark your work with excellence. Do whatever it takes to be known for excellence.

Be open to learning and sharing. Yes, the top may be lonely, but the road to the top doesn’t have to be. Be open to learning and adapting and reviewing your strategies.

Understand that rejection is part of the process, and don’t take rejection personally.

Good success requires patience. Do not buy into the argument of this age, where everything is now and instant.

And like Brian Tracy said, ‘You can never rise higher than your expectations of yourself’. Expect the best of yourself’.
